This page is devoted to lessons designed to teach concepts about or involving the Great Basin and Nevada. We would appreciate feedback about the lessons and encourage you to suggest or submit other lessons to be posted here.

Students will demonstrate knowledge of map reading by using a Nevada road map to identify geographic locations. Students will further demonstrate map reading by identifying geographic locations from a Nevada road map to a brownie in the shape of Nevada using frosting and candy pieces.
Students research places and cities of scientific, historic and of general interest in Nevada and then design and create postcards about them.
Students will plan and design a virtual vacation trip through Nevada and report about what they learned and experienced along the way.
Students will demonstrate knowledge of the size of a wagon used during the Westward Movement. Students will also demonstrate knowledge of pioneer needs by developing a list of items they would take if they were traveling on a wagon train.
Have students determine if the specific gravity of Nevada minerals is the same or nearly the same as the specific gravity of similar minerals listed in a rock and mineral book.
